Get Alerted When Faster Speeds Go Live In Your Area

BT fibre broadband

With more than 50 fibre broadband providers to choose from, finding the best broadband deal has never been easier. One of the UK’s leading providers is BT, a well-established and respected company that is at the higher end of broadband deals, compared with its budget counterparts.

BT fibre broadband offers premium services to customers across the UK, providing the extras you would expect, considering the prices. According to the majority of consumer reviews, BT fibre broadband deals provide a premium package with extras that are well worth having.

It offers ultrafast and superfast broadband speeds, combined with a good customer satisfaction record. It also provides a wide range of TV and phone plans that can be bundled together, creating a full home entertainment package.

Is fibre broadband available in my area?

BT’s special offers change on a regular basis and can make the difference between a good deal, or a great one – but first, it’s important to find out whether the service is available in your area, using our handy BT fibre broadband checker.

The majority of the UK’s cities and towns now have access to fibre broadband. Around 80% of the country is covered by BT broadband fibre, so there’s a good chance it will be available where you live.

BT fibre-optic broadband comes in five different packages, with speeds ranging from 36 Mbps to 150 Mbps for some householders. The average download speeds are between 57 Mbps and 67 Mbps, which is fast enough for even heavy data use and larger families.

Full fibre ultrafast speeds are also available for 2.98 million households across the UK. One of the most popular superfast BT broadband packages is the intermediate 50 Mbps package.

The contract terms for BT broadband are a standard 24 months, which is one of the longer terms among broadband providers. The upfront cost will vary, depending on what offers are available at the time.

When it comes to fibre-optic broadband, BT also has a couple of popular faster fibre packages: Fibre 100 and Fibre 200. Unfortunately, these two packages aren’t available to all households across the UK.

Does my home have Openreach’s ultrafast network?

There are more than 5.81 million premises across the UK covered by the Openreach ultrafast network, but this is still far fewer than the 15 million households who are covered by Virgin’s fibre network.

Openreach, owned by BT, is a major partner in the expansion of the UK’s full-fibre broadband network. The government aims to roll it out nationwide by 2025. While over time ultrafast and full-fibre services are becoming available to more households each month, unfortunately, many of us will still have to wait.

Of all the broadband suppliers in the UK, apart from EE, BT’s cheapest superfast pricing is still more expensive than its major rivals. When it comes to the mid-tier, only two providers to compare to BT – Virgin Media and Sky.

Because BT is a premium broadband provider, you would expect their prices to be generally higher than their competitors’ prices. BT is more expensive in general than Sky and Virgin Media, although there is very little in it.

Like BT, Sky uses the Openreach network, so its superfast speeds are also limited to the UK homes covered by the network. Virgin has its own network, covering more than 15 million premises, although these are mainly urban and other densely populated areas.

You can use the BT broadband fibre checker to find out if you live in one of the areas where you can get superfast fibre broadband. Sadly, if not, you may have to opt for slower speeds and simply wait until it becomes available in your area.

All the BT broadband deals come with line rental only, which allows call plans to be added separately, depending on your individual needs.

What are the popular BT broadband packages?

When you read any BT fibre broadband review, you’re going to hear about BT Halo. In fact, this is simply a new name for existing BT packages. BT Halo 1 used to be called BT Plus, while BT Halo 2 includes a better kit, but at a higher price, as you would expect.

Halo is the VIP tier for BT customers, offering the supplier’s “Keep Connected” promise. This means BT will send out a mini-hub to any customers who are having problems with broadband, or who are moving house.

The BT “Price Promise” means bills won’t increase when the contract ends. It also means existing customers won’t ever pay more than a new customer, which is good news for loyal subscribers. It offers a data boost for BT mobile customers too.

BT’s Halo 2 is a further step up, including home tech experts, who are available to sort things out seven days per week. You will also receive the latest Smart Hub 2.

There is a further tier to this model, where Halo customers can choose to include “Complete Wi-Fi” to their plan. This guarantees the customer will receive a strong signal in every room of their home.

Although Halo 2 is quite a costly addition to your monthly BT fibre broadband bill, it might be worth it if you want the latest Smart Hub 2 and need to stay connected without any dips.

What is BT’s router like?

BT has two routers with its broadband packages: the BT Smart Hub and the Smart Hub 2. The Smart Hub is supplied with superfast broadband packages. The Smart Hub 2 is provided when customers buy a BT fibre package with Complete Wi-Fi and Halo 2.

The Smart Hub 2 works well with Complete Wi-Fi and allows adults to manage screen time, such as turning the internet on and off when they need to manage other family members’ internet usage.

BT’s premium features include access to the UK’s BT Wi-Fi hotspot network, with a hefty five million hotspots available nationwide. It also includes free secure BT Cloud online storage, providing 200 GB for customers with 50 Mbps and 1,000 GB for faster packages. Two devices are covered with BT McAfee Virus Protect.

These make BT’s fibre broadband deals seem far more useful and cost-effective, as these added bonuses are something you would probably pay extra for with other suppliers. You can add various call plans to BT broadband as well.

If you’re considering subscribing to BT TV, bear in mind BT TV is available only to those with BT broadband. This means you can’t get cheaper broadband from another provider and must go with BT for the full package if you want TV as well.

Is BT business fibre broadband any good?

If you require BT business fibre broadband, you can get some pretty good deals, especially if you look out for offers. BT’s Superfast Essential and Superfast Enhanced business fibre broadband help businesses operate more quickly, thanks to faster Wi-Fi speeds around the workplace.

With Superfast Enhanced, business customers are backed up by 4G Assure, 24/7 IT support and built-in security, giving extra reliability which is crucial when you’re running a business.

While BT is one of the more expensive fibre broadband providers, you will see why when you take into account its packages and extras.
