Whilst it is an extension of the John Lewis name, the service is actually provided by Plusnet. So if you’re with John Lewis Broadband, it’s worth noting that you can expect the same service and infrastructure as a Plusnet broadband package under the guise of John Lewis name. This also limits the type of service you can receive as Plusnet- and subsequently John Lewis broadband, is not a full fibre provider. This means all packages are either ADSL (pure copper), which has top speeds of only 24Mbps, or FTTC (part copper, part fibre), which has top speeds of 80 Mbps.

John Lewis Broadband is designed to appeal to a very particular part of the broadband market. If you’re an advocate of the John Lewis brand and have simple broadband needs, with no frills, extras, or superfast connections this could be the provider for you.

How much is John Lewis Broadband?

John Lewis’s pricing is straightforward. They only have three options, making the decision of which meets your budget a lot easier.

The most basic package of 10Mbps ADSL is priced at £20.50 per month. In the current broadband market, this is a very overpriced package for the slowest broadband possible. In the age of Full Fibre broadband, it’s just as easy to get 10x faster broadband (100Mbps) for around the same price.

The medium offering from John Lewis Broadband is 36Mbps Fibre for £25.00 per month. This package would be useful for light broadband users, who use broadband for emails and browsing exclusively. Considering Alt Net’s like YouFibre can provide 50Mbps for only £17.00 per month, there are better deals available.

The flagship package for John Lewis is 66Mbps Fibre Extra at £28.00 per month. Alt Net’s such as B4RN (Only available in parts of the Northwest) can provide a full gigabit of internet (1000 Mbps) for just £30.00 per month. As we shift to becoming a full fibre nation, John Lewis broadband finds itself being less and less competitive.

But naturally, the value of these packages depends on what kind of broadband user you are. If you are an extremely low user of broadband after the bare necessities in the simplest way possible, then John Lewis Broadband may not be the best option, but it is certainly still convenient. On Trustpilot at time of writing, John Lewis Broadband has an overwhelming 82% rating of bad, with 1.6 stars. Common themes in the reviews talk about the company being poor all around with bad customer service and even worse connections. There is a plethora of reasons for this, stated in the reviews but predominantly, the problems span from poor customer service or poor connections.

Is John Lewis fibre broadband good?

John Lewis Broadband reviews are often very bad. They have a Trustpilot score of only 1.6 stars, with 82% scoring the company as ‘bad’. How long is the minimum contract length for John Lewis fibre broadband?

Understanding broadband contact lengths is a crucial part of choosing the right package.  Usually, the longer the contract, the cheaper the monthly price. But don’t be swayed by price alone. If you are only planning on living somewhere for 12 months or move a lot, it may cost you more in the long term to sign-up to an 18- or 24-month contract. Thus, counter-intuitively, you can actually save money on broadband by paying slightly more a month over less time.
