G.Network Fibre Broadband Review

Overview Of G.Network

G.Network fibre broadband is a specialist full-fibre internet provider offering extremely high speeds in the London area. They offer some excellent incentives to join, giving you the chance to experience the benefits of super-fast speeds before you commit to a long contract.

What Speeds Is G.Network Capable Of?

Because G.Network offers full-fibre, this allows it to give you faster download and upload speeds than many fibre broadband providers who rely on copper wiring to complete the connection to your home.

There are four packages for you to choose from, starting at the entry-level option with 150Mbps download speeds, with 50Mbps upload speeds. This normally costs £30 per month if you choose a 1-year contract, or £28 per month for a 2-year contract, although it is sometimes on offer for £22 per month.

The next step up is the 300Mbps option, which includes upload speeds of 100Mbps. This is £40 per month if you sign up for a year, or £38 per month if you decide to sign a 2-year contract.

The third package is 500Mbps with average upload speeds of 150Mbps. In a similar fashion to the two prior packages, this costs £50 per month for a 1-year contract or £48 per month if you decide on a 2-year deal.

Finally, the top-level package gives you average download speeds of 900Mbps, with an upload speed that matches it. This is the only package where the upload speed is the same as the download speed, and is best suited to anyone who uploads a high volume of data including streamers, gamers or anyone who just wants to upload a lot of videos and photos at once.

The 900Mbps package normally costs £60 per month for a 1-year contract or £57 per month for 2-years, but it is often on offer for £48 per month, making it cheaper than the third-tier package.

Whichever package you decide to settle on, you’ll actually get 900Mbps speeds for the first three months of your contract. While this is a great opportunity to experience the faster speeds for your introductory period, also be aware that there is a three-month satisfaction guarantee – if you’re not happy within your first three months, you can cancel.

This is a good offer, but it does mean you can only cancel while you’re experiencing the best speeds – by the time your package drops to its correct level it’s too late to back out without paying cancellation charges if you realise it isn’t right for you.

Coverage: Where Is G.Network Fibre Available?

G.Network is currently only available in London, and even then it isn’t currently offered in every borough. Whereas most broadband providers have information on their current availability and plans for expansion on their website, G.Network play their cards close to their chest – you can only find out if it’s available at your address if you use the postcode checker.

If you want to find out whether you can get G.Network’s high-speed broadband, just head to the website and enter your postcode. You can register your details if it’s not available where you are, and you’ll be notified once it’s in your area.

What Router do G.Network Provide With Their Ultrafast Fibre?

Every G.Network package includes a free Wi-Fi router that you simply need to plug into your new fibre connection. It comes with 4 ethernet ports, which are recommended for use if you want to get the best speeds from your connection. The 900Mbps speeds may not be possible over a wireless connection.

Installation: How Long Does It Take To Get G.Network?

Once it’s been determined that you’re able to get G.Network fibre broadband, your installation process will begin. And process is the right word, as it can take up to 2 months to complete your installation from the date you order. If you need broadband set up fast then G.Network might not be the best option. Some customers have also complained that it has taken longer in reviews left on TrustPilot.

The first step with your installation is a survey. A surveyor will visit your home and examine your street, determining the best way to lay the cabling for the most clean and efficient installation.

Next up, you’ll need the permission of the landowner for the installation. If you’re the freeholder then this is simple, but otherwise, G.Network will handle speaking to the owner, landlord or managing agent to iron out the details and get permission.

Once that’s sorted, the engineer visit can be booked. You’ll be contacted with an installation date when the engineer will lay the cables and make sure your connection is up and running.

Is G.Network Customer Service Good?

If you need support from G.Network as a customer, you may be a little disappointed. You can reach them by telephone for general enquiries on 0203 909 4555 or for sales on 0800 078 3933, but only from Monday to Friday between 8.45 am and 5.30 pm. If you have a technical issue, you’re simply referred to email where you can wait for a response.

Reviews for G.Network on TrustPilot are broadly positive, but compared to other providers they do have more than their usual share of negative reviews. The average review score is 4.3 out of 5 but there are numerous 2-star and 1-star reviews that talk of lack of communication, delayed installations, poor speeds and other issues. Most customers are happy, but just be aware that they aren’t perfect.

Conclusion

If you live in London and you’re looking for high-speed fibre broadband then G.Network might be a solid option to consider. Their speeds are faster than some of the major providers, and you get three months to try out the top speeds even if you choose the cheapest package.

However bear in mind that installation can take a while, so they might not be suitable if you’ve just moved into a new place and need internet immediately, and their service is mostly positive but not always the best.

Pros:

• 3-month satisfaction guarantee – if you aren’t happy, you can leave with no obligation
• All customers get the top 900Mbps speed for their first three months before moving to their chosen speed
• No installation charges

Cons:

• Only available in parts of London, with no clear information on where
• Inconsistent customer service – many positive reviews balanced with quite a few bad experiences
• Installation can take up to 2 months to complete

Overall rating – 7/10
