Get Alerted When Faster Speeds Go Live In Your Area

The UK fibre broadband market is particularly competitive right now, which is good news for consumers looking for a great fibre broadband deal. To help you find the right deal for you, we’ve put together this comprehensive review of one of the popular new broadband providers in the UK, G.network. Here you will find out all you need to know about G.network, their history, their available broadband speeds and packages and how much of the UK they cover.

    About G.network Broadband Fibre

Before we look at the specific 12 month broadband fibre deals offered by G.network, here’s all you need to know about G.network and the basics of their fibre broadband service.

    Who is G.network?

G.network was founded in 2016 with a focus on the London broadband network, laying miles of their own fibre connections and replacing the old copper cables. They claim to be aiming at producing a fibre broadband network that will ‘future proof’ the city for years to come, and provide a full installation and connection service, as well as a range of fibre broadband packages.

The company is partly owned by the Luxembourg-based Cube Infrastructure Managers, and earlier this year set out to raise £200 million in extra investment to enable it to expand its London network and compete with the longer established BT Open Reach network. So how well does G.network perform when it comes to speed and value for money.

    G.network Fibre Broadband Speed

One of the first things you look at when choosing a new fibre broadband provider is the speed of the service. There is huge variability in broadband speed across the UK with services ranging from 150Mbps to as high as 1Gbps, and that speed is increasing all the time as more of us rely on fast connectivity to watch our favourite shows, listen to music or work from home.

How fast is G.network fibre broadband?

G.network are targeting just about the most sophisticated technology market in the UK, with London being a key global financial hub and the heart of the UK economy. They emphasise that their all-fibre broadband network is one of the fastest around, and given their likely customer base, they seem to be focused on providing the fastest possible service, with speed options ranging from 100Mbps for their lowest package to a seriously impressive 10Gbps for their top package.

What speeds are available with G.network fibre optic broadband?

As with all fibre broadband providers, G.network offer a variety of speeds, and the precise speed you receive will vary according to a number of factors, including the intensity of use in your location.

When it comes to residential users, there are four available speeds with G.network. The slowest is 150Mbps, and there are intermediate packages offering 300Mbps and 500Mbps, while the fastest speed for residential users is 900Mbps, available with the ‘900Meg’ package.

    G.network Fibre Broadband Review

There are many factors to weigh up when you’re considering which broadband fibre to sign up for. In this section we will cover everything from the quality of the G.network packages to what is available in each package. We will also be taking a closer look at the G.network customer service options, and how responsive the company is to its new and existing customers.

    Is G.network fibre broadband good?

There is no doubt that G.network offers one of the fastest services around. If you’re looking for pure speed in the London area, then G.network are extremely competitive. Most broadband users will be weighing up speed and cost when they choose a new service, and G.network shines in this area, providing extremely fast broadband at a competitive price.

This is largely down to the fact that the company has invested in its own network of Fibre To The Premises (FTTP) connections, whereas many broadband operators can only offer a Fibre To The Exchange (FTTE) service, which is dependent on the last leg of the connection from the exchange to your home, the area where a lot of speed can be lost. Having invested heavily in setting up their own connections appears to have paid dividends for G.network, based on customer Trustpilot reviews, with many new customers praising the speed and cost ratio of the service.

    G.network Fibre Broadband Packages

The rapid growth of the fibre broadband sector and the widespread competition has led to a proliferation of packages, all offering different speeds, costs and extras, which can be confusing. To help steer you through the various options with G.network, in this section we will explore which packages are available with G.network and what each package offers for broadband customers.

What G.network fibre packages are available?

As mentioned above, business users can choose from three packages, though each offers quite a wide range of possible speeds and features, designed to cater for companies and organisations ranging from small startups to major city firms.

When it comes to the choices for residential users, there are four options, based around the speeds that are offered. Residential customers can choose from 150Mbps, 300Mbps, 500Mbps and 900Mbps. Giving the packages the same name as the speed that each offers helps to keep the choice simple, and in a crowded and confusing market, G.network have come up with four clearly-defined packages for residential customers.

    150Mbps

This is the starter package for residential users and the cheapest of the four. It offers a download speed of 150Mbps and an upload speed of 50Mbps, but for the first three months that a customer receives the service, they will benefit from 900Mbps, which is something that will be welcomed by many users, and which G.network clearly hope will lead users to switch up to the 900Mbps package at the end of the three-month introductory period.

In addition to the quoted speed, customers who opt for the 150Mbps service will get a three-month satisfaction guarantee. This effectively means that any customer can cancel their service during the first three months with no quibbles or hassle. In addition, with the 150Mbps package, you get a free Wi-fi router that comes with four ethernet ports.

Finally, G.network give you access to a support line and a dedicated Relationship Manager to handle queries and problems, along with free connection for this package.

    300Mbps

The second fastest package available with G.network is the 300Mbps option. As with the 150Mbps package, this option provides free connection, a free router and the same access to the Relationship Manager and general support line.

Customers who opt for this package will also have the bonus of enjoying 900Mbps fibre broadband speeds for the first three months of their contract. At the end of this period, the service switches to the regular speed, with 300Mbps download speeds and 100Mbps for uploads.

    500Mbps

For customers looking for fibre broadband speeds at the higher end of the market, but who are reluctant to pay the full price for the fastest package, the 500Mbps provides a reasonable compromise between speed and cost, download speeds of 500Mbps and uploads of 150Mbps. As with the lower-priced packages, the first three months offer a speed of 900Mbps, and the free G.Network router, free connection and access to a Relationship Manager also applies to this package.

    900Mbps

At the top end of the G.network speed options is the ultra fast 900Mbps package, known as the ‘900 Meg’. This represents one of the fastest fibre broadband speeds around, and unlike the cheaper packages, which provide for different download and upload speeds, with the 900 Meg, you get download and upload both at the advertised 900Mbps.

That’s a pretty impressive offer, and for households with a high level of broadband usage or for those who want to play the latest games, utilise top range home cinema or who use the internet for creative music, art or video packages, the 900 Meg offers enough speed to handle all you can throw at it.

It’s also pleasing to see that the 900 Meg includes all of the extras available with the three other G.network packages, so your installation will be free, along with a free router, and access to the support line and the Relationship Manager.

    G.network Fibre Broadband Offers

One way of standing out from the crowd in an extremely competitive fibre broadband market is to provide bonuses and other incentives to attract customers, and G.network have come up with a few offers to sweeten their service for new customers.

The most interesting offer is the 900Mbps speed boost for the first three months of a customer’s contract, regardless of which package you signed up for. This is certainly an interesting offer and is likely to encourage many customers to take the plunge, although switching back to the lower speed at the end of that initial three month period may take some getting used to!

G.network also offer regular price cuts on some of their packages. These seem to apply mostly to the top and bottom tier packages. For instance, customers who sign up to the 150Mbps service on a 2-year contract will pay £22 per month instead of the usual £28 and the 900 Meg service has also seen a significant price drop from £57 down to £48 per month.

Perhaps the most impressive feature with the G.network fibre broadband packages is the Unlimited Data that comes with all four packages, which again will prove attractive to residential customers with high internet usage.

How much does G.network fibre broadband cost?

Along with speed, cost is the crucial factor when weighing up which fibre broadband provider to choose and there are effectively eight options available for G.network customers.

With each of the packages there are two options, depending on whether you opt for a one year or a two-year initial contract. For example, the 300Mbps package is £38 per month if you choose a two-year deal, but £40 per month for the one-year signup. Similarly, the 500Mbps package costs £48 if you sign up for a two-year deal but £50 if you go for a one-year option.

Interestingly, there is no differential with the top and bottom packages. Both the 150Mbps and the 900 Meg packages have the same monthly cost, £22 and £48 respectively, for one and two-year deals, thanks to the ongoing G.network offer.

How long is the minimum contract length for G.network fibre broadband?

It is common for fibre broadband providers to seek to tie their customers into an initial period, to give them some kind of guaranteed return, and G.network is no exception. Having invested heavily in their network, their packages tie customers to either one year or two-year deals. So the shortest period that you can sign up for with G.network is one year. Cancel your service short of the one year mark and you could find you are liable for the full amount across the remainder of the contract.

The commitment is softened somewhat by the three-month no-quibble cancellation option, although as this coincides with the free 900Mbps speed offer, customers won’t really have a chance to assess how their broadband performs at its regular speed during this period, which is something to bear in mind when you’re considering your sign-up options.

    G.network Fibre Broadband Checker

The fibre broadband availability situation is changing all the time in the UK as new operators enter the market, upgrade or change their networks. So it is important to be able to check whether a service is even available in your area. Fortunately, there is an easy way to check G.network availability.

How do I check if G.network fibre broadband is in my area?

To check whether you can benefit from G.network fibre broadband, simply go to the G.network site and scroll down to the middle of the home page. You will see an empty box with a blue Check Now button. Enter your postcode into the box, click the button and you’ll get your answer.

What is G.network’s fibre coverage in the UK?

G.network’s slogan is ‘Building London’s Broadband from the Fibre Up’ so you won’t be surprised to find that the G.network service is a London-only option. Although they are expanding their network within the London area, it doesn’t appear that there are any plans to offer the G.network fibre broadband packages to the rest of the country at this stage.

The G.network service doesn’t cover the whole of London yet. Back in August this year, they struck a deal with Bedford Estates of Bloomsbury to extend their network to the Bloomsbury area. So far, over 100,000 homes and premises have been linked to the network, with the company saying they have an initial target of 120,000, though that figure is likely to rise over the coming months.

    G.network fibre broadband availability checker

One interesting and useful feature with the G.network fibre broadband checker is the option to enter your details if their service is not currently available in your area. This screen comes up if you enter your postcode and you get the ‘We’re not available at your property yet’ message. Simply enter your details and you can register your interest in gaining access to the G.network service, potentially helping to inform the company about which area of London they should connect up next.

    G.network Fibre Customer Services

Although the broadband sector has improved its reputation for customer service over the last few years, there’s no getting away from the fact that some customers have a poor experience. So it is important, if you’re considering signing up to a new service, to know that you can access reliable, efficient customer support at any time, particularly during the installation and connection stages.

The good news for potential G.network customers is that the company appears to take this aspect of broadband provision seriously. Clicking on the Contact link at the top of the home page opens up a variety of contact options, including phone numbers for Sales and General Enquiries, an email support option and on-site messaging system. There is even a postal address, should you need it.

As with any broadband operator, the quality of customer service can vary and customer support representatives are not always able to resolve all issues immediately, but the general impression among customers who have had to contact the G.network customer support service is that the team members are friendly and helpful, and efficient at progressing issues.

What is the G.network customer service number?

There are two phone numbers available for customer support, depending on which aspect you are having difficulties with. Those who have a query about a new package or an ongoing installation can use the Sales number, which is 0800 078 3933. For other queries, the General Enquiries option is available on 0203 909 4555.

How to cancel G.network fibre broadband

Broadband companies may pull out all the stops to keep their customers, but they are also obliged by the market regulator to provide a straightforward cancellation process.

With G.network, customers who want to cancel the service can rely on the three-month, no-quibble cancellation option. To exercise this option or to cancel the service at any other time, the G.network terms and conditions state that a customer has to inform them of a clear intention to cancel through email, post or fax. There is also a template cancellation message available in the Residential Terms and Conditions section of the site.
