Get Alerted When Faster Speeds Go Live In Your Area

    About Hyperoptic Broadband

Hyperoptic is a broadband provider that offers full-fibre only broadband. It’s not available everywhere in the UK yet, but if you are in an installation area then you could take advantage of rapid speeds. Read on to find out more about the packages available, where you can get Hyperoptic broadband, and whether it’s worth it.

    What is Hyperoptic broadband?

Hyperoptic offers customers the chance to enjoy extremely fast download and upload speeds through its full-fibre network. While most of the bigger internet providers offer fibre broadband, their fibre network only runs to local exchanges. From there, the signal is still carried using traditional phone lines, massively limiting the speeds. Hyperoptic lays fibre cabling all the way to your home – hence the term ‘full-fibre’ – so you can enjoy the complete benefit of fibre optic speeds.

    How fast is Hyperoptic broadband?

Hyperoptic broadband is extremely fast. There are four packages available, with the most basic ‘Fast’ package offering you speeds of 50Mbps. Considering the top-level packages of Sky and BT are normally around the 60Mbps speeds, you’ll get an idea of just how good the slowest Hyperoptic speed is.

Depending on what you use the internet for, you may prefer one of the quicker packages, with the top one offering speeds of up to 1Gbps – or 1,000Mbps. It’s extremely unlikely you’ll need this speed but if your household does a lot of HD or 4K video streaming on multiple devices at the same time, or you’ve gamers who want every potential advantage in online multiplayer, or you simply want to future-proof yourself, then this top package might be ideal.

Why is Hyperoptic fibre broadband different?

Hyperoptic fibre broadband is different from many fibre broadband providers because it is full-fibre. This means that the fibre optic cables run all the way to your home. With other fibre broadband providers, the fibre optic cable network only runs between exchanges. You still get some benefit as the wider speeds are better, but they are throttled by the cabling into your property.

Hyperoptic instead run the fibre cables all the way to your home so that your speeds aren’t limited by the traditional phone line cables. This is what allows you to get speeds that are sometimes 20x as fast as those offered by some of the larger providers in the UK.

    Hyperoptic Broadband Speed

One of the main reasons customers choose Hyperoptic broadband over alternatives is the speed options available. While some of the mainstream providers will have a maximum speed of around 50-60Mbps, that’s the lowest speed you can get with Hyperoptic. They have four packages available with potentially huge speeds, ideal for anyone who has a family that are always online, using multiple devices.

    How fast is Hyperoptic broadband?

Hyperoptic broadband has four packages. The fastest of these has speeds of up to 1Gbps, although the average is closer to 900Mbps. This is still faster than most other providers can get near, and means you’ll have no trouble running multiple devices at home that have high internet demands.

What speeds are available with Hyperoptic?

The basic package for Hyperoptic is called Fast, with average speeds of 50Mbps. You can choose to pay a little extra for Superfast, with average speeds of 150Mbps, or Ultrafast with 500Mbps average speeds. The fastest package, Hyperfast, offers up to 1Gbps downloads and uploads.

    Does Hyperoptic guarantee speed?

Hyperoptic doesn’t publish a speed guarantee and if your speed were to dip after your first 30 days of service, you’d need to speak to them to work out whether you were due any refund. They do say that their speed to your router is guaranteed, so you shouldn’t get less than you’re told you’ll be able to, but they cannot guarantee that your WiFi signal will be as strong to carry that speed to your devices.

    Hyperoptic Broadband Review

Hyperoptic broadband has very good customer reviews online. Many customers are happy with both the quick download and upload speeds, and the customer service.

    Is Hyperoptic good?

Hyperoptic is a reliable internet provider with many happy customers – over 7,000 have left a positive review online. The speeds exceed that offered by many of the more ‘mainstream’ broadband providers while the costs usually work out similar. They also have excellent customer support available 24/7, so even if you’re pulling an all-nighter to get some work done, your internet problems can be resolved quickly

    Is Hyperoptic better than Sky?

Hyperoptic’s packages are faster than Sky’s for the equivalent costs, in some cases significantly so. If speed matters to you – especially if your household likes to stream on multiple devices or does a lot of online gaming or video uploading – then Hyperoptic might be a better choice.

There are two major negatives when you compare Hyperoptic to Sky. The first is availability – Sky covers more than 95% of the UK, while Hyperoptic is only available in some major cities and towns for now. The second is that Hyperoptic doesn’t have any TV packages – if you’re looking for a combined broadband and TV deal, Sky can help but Hyperoptic cannot, although you can buy your TV separately with another provider and get Hyperoptic’s superfast broadband speeds.

Is Hyperoptic broadband as good as BT?

Similar to comparisons with Sky fibre, when you compare Hyperoptic to BT you’ll find that Hyperoptic costs broadly a similar amount for much faster speeds. However BT is more widely available, and it offers TV packages that Hyperoptic cannot. If speed matters to you, and you’re in an area where Hyperoptic is available, it’s worth considering them as your provider over BT.

    Hyperoptic Broadband Packages

There are four different Hyperoptic packages to choose from if you’re in a region where Hyperoptic is available. Find the one that’s best suited to your needs, and then you can take your pick from either a 12-month contract or a monthly rolling option, depending on whether you think you’ll want to leave within that year. Finally, just decide whether you only want broadband, or if you want a phone line to be installed as well.

    What Hyperoptic packages are available?

There are four different main broadband packages to choose from. These are ‘Fast’, ‘Superfast’, ‘Ultrafast’ and ‘Hyperfast’. All of the packages come with unlimited data, free installation and a free wall-mountable router. There’s a one-off £29 activation fee too.

Hyperoptic fast, superfast, ultafast and hyperfast explained

Hyperoptic’s Fast package is the entry-level package with download speeds that average 50Mbps. This is more than enough if you’re a light internet user or your home doesn’t have many devices that require an online connection.

The next level up, Superfast, has average speeds of 150Mbps, which is faster than the top-level package from many of the main broadband providers in the UK. Not only that, but with the Superfast package and above you get the same upload speeds as you do download speeds – so you can upload at 150Mbps as well. This is perfect if you’re someone who likes to share videos and high-res photos of your family or nights out.

Ultrafast has an average speed of 500Mbps, equal to the top-level package on Virgin Media. At this speed, you’re going to have no trouble streaming HD or 4K content even on multiple TVs and phones at the same time, while any online gamers in the house won’t be able to blame their gaming on the internet’s performance.

If you want the very best, or you just want to make sure you’re future-proofed, then choose Hyperfast. This is a connection with a maximum 1Gbps (or 1,000Mbps) speed with average download speeds of 900Mbps. This is faster than your WiFi will be able to handle, so you should only expect to get these actual speeds if you’re using a wired Ethernet connection. It’s more than enough for multiple online gamers in your home, or for streaming 4K boxsets when everyone wants to watch something different.

Which is the best Hyperoptic package?

The fastest Hyperoptic package is the Hyperfast with speeds of up to 1Gbps. But that doesn’t mean it’s the best one for you. You need to take into account the cost versus what you’d be using it for. If your family doesn’t game online and doesn’t stream in 4K, it’s unlikely that you’ll need the top package.

Plus, you should think about whether you want a phone line. If you don’t, be sure to only take out the broadband-only package. Many people get by without a home phone these days, so weigh up whether it’s time for you to ditch the landline too.

    Hyperoptic Broadband Offers

There are usually offers available on Hyperoptic’s 12-month packages, bringing the cost down. You won’t often find an offer on the Fast package but the Superfast, Ultrafast and Hyperfast packages will normally have a reduced monthly cost for your first year before it rises for any months after that. There is a guarantee that your price won’t rise for the duration of your contract.

Hyperoptic also offers a price match guarantee. If you can find an equivalent package with the same speeds with another provider that’s cheaper (when you take activation and installation costs into account as well), Hyperoptic will match it for you.

And finally, there are student discounts available too – so if you’re a student looking for an internet connection for your halls or rented home, you could save even more money. Considering that Hyperoptic is available in many of the major university cities in the UK, it’s certainly a strong option to consider.

How much does Hyperoptic broadband cost?

The cost of the various fibre packages available with Hyperoptic differs depending on whether you choose a broadband and phone package, or whether you choose a 12-month or rolling monthly contract. As a guide, the Fast package costs £22 per month if you choose a yearly contract without a phone line or £24 per month with a phone line. Those costs increase to £26pm and £28pm if you opt for a rolling monthly contract.

The Superfast package varies from £29pm to £34pm, the Ultrafast from £35pm to £44pm and the Hyperfast from £45pm to £54pm. All packages have a free router and free installation, with a one-off £29 activation fee.

How long is the minimum contract length for Hyperoptic broadband?

One of the key features of Hyperoptic broadband apart from their speed is the fact that their contract options are a lot more flexible than other providers. When you sign up with Hyperoptic you have two options – a 12-month contract, or a monthly rolling contract. If you choose the monthly rolling contract, then you only need to give 30 days’ notice to cancel your agreement at any time, with no extra early termination charges to worry about. The monthly price is a little higher if you choose this – £26 per month for the Fast package compared to £22, for example.

Whether you choose a 12-month contract or a rolling month contract, the 30 day’s notice period applies.

What are the Hyperoptic and TV package options?

Unfortunately, Hyperoptic doesn’t offer any TV packages at the minute. You can choose either standalone broadband, or broadband with a phone line, but if you want a TV service then you’ll need to order that separately with another provider. There is nothing to stop you having your TV with Sky, Virgin or TalkTalk while you have your broadband with Hyperoptic however, and many customers choose this setup to get the best TV and the fastest internet speeds.

    Hyperoptic Broadband Checker

One of the main drawbacks to Hyperoptic is that they simply aren’t available throughout the UK yet, and while you can register your interest, they won’t come to your area until demand is high enough to lay the cables needed to carry the internet to you.

What is Hyperoptic coverage in the UK?

Hyperoptic’s coverage is limited in the UK currently to major cities, and even then not every city has the option. Most customers are in London and the South East including the Home Counties, but there are customers in Birmingham, Nottingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Preston, Newcastle, Leeds, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Some smaller areas also have access, but these are limited. If you don’t live in one of these cities, you should head to the Hyperoptic website and add your details. The more people within an area that register their interest, the more likely Hyperoptic are to bring their super-speed broadband to your region.

How do I check if Hyperoptic is in my area?

To check whether you can get Hyperoptic broadband in your area, just head to the Hyperoptic website. There’s a bar on the homepage where you can enter your postcode and then select your address. From there you’ll be told whether it’s available at your address, or if it isn’t then you’ll be offered the chance to fill in a form to register your interest for future.

    Hyperoptic availability checker

Once you complete the availability checked, you’ll also be able to view the Coverage Map, which you can find at https://www.hyperoptic.com/map/.

This shows you where Hyperoptic broadband is currently available through the use of map pins. Green pins show areas where there are existing customers, while red pins designate somewhere that an installation has been agreed and the service will soon be available.

Most people will be interested in the black map pins. These represent people who have registered their interest with Hyperoptic but cannot currently get the service. If you want Hyperoptic broadband but it’s not currently available in your area, you’ll be able to see at a glance whether there are others in your region who’ve already registered interest in the service. If there are a few of you, the chances of Hyperoptic coming to you soon are higher. If it’s just you, then still register, as you might encourage other people to sign up later.

    Hyperoptic Customer Services

Hyperoptic has one of the best customer service options available of any UK provider. Firstly, you can get in touch at any time day or night – the phone lines, email accounts and live chat are all staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You don’t need to panic if your internet goes down overnight, particularly if you’re relying on it for work.

The reviews for the service and the customer support specifically are also excellent. On Trustpilot, the provider has an average score of 4.8/5 with over 7,500 reviews, of which 92% are either 4 or 5 stars. Many of these reviews mention the customer support, in particular how it can be accessed late at night and how quickly problems can be resolved.

What is the Hyperoptic customer service number?

If you need to speak to the Hyperoptic customer service team, the phone number is 0333 332 1111. The phone lines are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so you’ll always have someone on hand to answer your calls even if your internet has a problem overnight while working on those last-minute reports for the office.

If you’d rather avoid a phone call, you can email the customer service team on support@hyperoptic.com or live chat with the team on the website. Both services are also available 24/7. No matter the issue, you’ll have no trouble getting in touch.

    Hyperoptic broadband speed test

If you want to test your broadband speed, you can do so on the Hyperoptic website. You can find it at http://speed.hyperoptic.com/ or just by heading to the Hyperoptic.com website and, under the Help section, finding the Speed page.

The speed test is powered by Speedtest.com which is owned by a third party, Ookla, and it’s renowned for its accuracy. You don’t need to be a Hyperoptic customer to take the test, and you can use it before you sign up to find out what your current broadband speed is if you aren’t sure, so you’re more understanding of the potential upgrade available. You can also use the speed test when your Hyperoptic service is down- should you need evidence.

    How to cancel Hyperoptic broadband

If you decide to cancel with Hyperoptic, you’ll need to give 30 days’ notice, even if you’re on a rolling monthly contract. You can cancel at any time but, if you’re within a 12-month contract, you will need to pay a termination fee.

You can cancel by calling the customer service team on 0333 332 1111.
